EUROMAR, Dublin – The Full Story

“From the latest innovations to the coolest parties, from the physical instrument displays to the highly addictive games at the Bruker suite, EUROMAR 2012 in Dublin gave us all plenty of opportunity for news and views, sharing and learning, and not least the good company!”

University College Dublin

This year EUROMAR took place in the welcoming campus of University College Dublin. With delegates numbering approximately 500, the campus saw a lot of activity between lecture halls and the hospitality suites.

The Bruker suite was particularly busy as there was a significant range of interesting posters, slideshows and touchscreens, a new software demo station and an impressive full size display of a Bruker 600 MHz Ascend system fitted with CryoProbe Prodigy, a BNL (Nitrgoen Liquefier) and the SampleCase samplechanger.

Delegates were free to mingle and explore the suite’s welcoming design, to meet and talk with specialists and representatives from many key departments in Bruker, from engineering, research and development, to applications and sales. With such expertise on-hand the suite never seemed to be empty.

The week actually began on Sunday with our well-attended and well-received Luncheon Symposium which highlighted the latest developments across our magnetic resonance portfolio and featured some key talks from specialists and experts in their field.

Talks at the Lunch Symposium on Sunday

After a warm welcome from Bernd Gewiese, co-president of Bruker BioSpin, attendees enjoyed talks on the new AVANCE III-HD, new and revolutionary NMR Thermometer, DNP, new CryoProbe developments.

After a featured talk on the recent advances in High Frequency Dynamic Nuclear Polarization from our special guest, Prof. Robert Griffin (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), attendees were shown innovations for improving sustainability and new software solutions aimed at taking “NMR beyond just spectra”.

A key talk also explained current developments in our service and aftersales solutions aimed at matching evolving needs and generating ever more benefits for our customers.

A busy Monday night

A busy Monday night

Monday evening saw hundreds of delegates arrive promptly at the Bruker suite for our traditional Monday Night party.

The cool swing band playing some relaxed tunes

It wasn’t long before everyone was enjoying some good food, cool refreshments and some relaxing sounds from the Swing Band.

And then the ‘gaming’ began!

As soon as the green dice trays appeared the bar was surrounded by enthusiastic players all keen to chance their luck with the special dice set that made up the HD NMR Yahtzee game, first seen at ENC earlier this year.

Just one more throw...

As theresonance.com has already reported, the luck of the Irish seemed to make a startling appearance too and within minutes the allocation of top prizes – the new Kindle Touch – had been won.

Keen to ensure that everyone had a shot at winning, another round of top prizes were brought in, and again it wasn’t long before these too were snapped up by happy winners. (Check out the winner’s gallery, and, if you haven’t seen it yet, the great video of our best ever winner’s reaction!)

Tuesday night saw an even bigger line of ‘players’ forming a queue more than fifteen minutes ahead of the ‘go’ time.

To keep things interesting the combination of dice needed to win was changed, and an excited array of rolling styles saw people get close, and then again start to win the prizes.

The draw for a Samsung Galaxy Tablet was held on Wednesday, shortly after the last talk of the day.

The crowd of delegates that gathered for the draw was treated to a glass of a special Irish Whisky, a special aged single malt.

It’s probably not that often that our customers get the chance to visit Ireland, so a sample of the ‘genuine taste’ was greatly appreciated.

We would like to thank you all for helping make Dublin a fun, engaging event for everyone. We appreciate your kind words of thanks at the booth, and your engaging conversation.

Looking forward to seeing you next year in Greece… ‘roll’ on 2013!
